From Asheville, North Carolina, I made my way into South Carolina. The weather had been rainy so activity options were limited. My first night I slept a little way outside of Congaree National Park so that I could visit the next morning.

After welcoming the new year just over the border of North Carolina, I made my way through the rest of the state.

Virginia
My trek into Virginia began on Christmas Eve. I was emotionally preparing to spend Christmas alone and that was by choice. I didn’t think it would bother me if I could stay somewhere amazing. I was lucky enough to make that happen near a trailhead in the George Washington National Forest.
