Forrest is Back

I was still waiting for my new engine to arrive and I was getting used to calling the Mercedes Benz dealership outside of Salt Lake City my “home.”

I had my dog on almost every kind of pill out there to hopefully help with what may or may not be a parasite or bacterial infection, and she had just gotten a Mercedes bath.

Meanwhile, I had gone on a wonderful first date with a guy living the “bus life,” and he already wanted to make plans again. So, while my circumstances were certainly difficult, things were looking up.

Mercedes Living

 
Occasionally, I’ll get one of those “I’ve never had a better shower in my life” type of showers. This was one of those.

I stood in that shower for what felt like hours. I washed off the dirt, sweat, and tears from the past week. It was like I was washing off all the places I’d been to and all the memories that were lingering on my skin. I was ready to feel fresh.

A Breakdown

I woke up on my last morning in Colorado and sipped my coffee next to the reservoir, listening to music, watching the Pronghorn walk down to the water, and letting the sun warm my skin.  I was soaking in my last few minutes in Colorado.  I knew I wouldn’t be getting on that river trip with my boyfriend.

Rivers and Roads

Disclaimer/Spoiler Alert: Just like the last post, I’ve decided to write this next leg of my journey just as it happened.  That includes a lot of details about a relationship that doesn’t work out.  Although it’s hard to look back at, it all works out the way it’s supposed to.

My drive to Terlingua, Texas was pretty brutal.  I was exhausted from a late night with a new friend and from traveling back to Michigan.  I was breaking my 2-hour driving rule and pushing the limits on how far I could drive.  I was taking 15-minute gas station naps and trying to get to Texas to be with the guy I was now calling my boyfriend.

Arizona

I was on my journey to Arizona and I wanted to stop by Gila National Forest on my way through southern New Mexico.  I spent the night at a rest stop, the last place to stay near Gila National Forest that still had a cell signal.  As soon as I finished work in the morning, I drove off into the wilderness.
